Our founder and CEO

Nick Leach

Profile

In the 1990s, Nick re-established Abbott/AbbVie in New Zealand. Within five years, he grew the organisation from just six people to the largest Pharmaceutical Company in New Zealand.

During his tenure, he developed an intuitive understanding of the New Zealand Government Medicine procurement agency, PHARMAC. He has deep knowledge of the workings of PHARMAC, an established network of decision makers and has negotiated the listing of several key products, including the pivotal biologic, HUMIRA.

For the past two years, Nick has been working as a PHARMAC advisor with international based pharmaceutical companies. With Nick’s guidance and understanding of the intricacies of the New Zealand system, those companies have experienced success when before they have struggled.

Nick's approach is unique, securing funding and access where others thought it was impossible. Using his financial expertise and modeling capabilities he creates options that achieve the best possible win, win, win agreements - a win for Pharmaceutical Companies, a win for PHARMAC, and a win for all New Zealanders having access to new medication.

Nick now leads a company that provides a proven pathway for customers who have struggled in the past to be successful in the unique New Zealand ecosystem.

“Eisai New Zealand worked with Nick Leach in 2022 as our organization wanted some experienced insights to progress proposals to PHARMAC for the funding of Eisai medicines. Nick helped us to increase our understanding of the NZ environment and tailor our proposals in a way that helped us advance our negotiations significantly.  Nick brings a solid understanding of the New Zealand funding environment and is responsive and aligned to the Eisai patient centric approach. We wish Wellmed.NZ success in broadening access to medicines for NZ patients.”
